#WriteMentor

Hey WriteMentor hopefuls!

Hi I’m Jenny Pearson.

As a mentor on the #writementor programme, I’m excited to be able to help somebody shape their work for success. Yup, publishing can be a tough industry to break into, but tough doesn’t mean impossible, so let’s get it DONE!

I’m offering one writer the chance to work with me to make their query package shine. This will include honing the first three chapters of your story, your cover letter and the dreaded synopsis so you can attract your dream agent’s interest.

Who am I?

I’m a MG writer, represented by Sam Copeland at RCW. After an 8-way publisher auction I signed a three-book six-figure deal with Usborne. My debut novel, THE SUPER MIRACULOUS JOURNEY OF FREDDIE YATES will be out in 2020. I’m still not used to saying that.

I’ve been a primary school teacher in the UK for fourteen years, so I have lots of experience of the MG age group- what they read, what they like, how they speak and what they consider to be a questionable haircut for a teacher.

I was a mentee in the #WriteMentor programme last year so know what it is like to be on your side of the process.

So, what am I looking for?

All the middle grade writers.

I love humour but if you write for the 8-12 year age bracket, please send your words my way.

I want to work with someone who backs themselves and is passionate about their story but is also ready for some hard graft.

What can I offer?

As well as an endless supply of gold stars and well done stickers, I’ll be your biggest champion. But I will be honest—I’ll tell you what is working and what isn’t. We can discuss character development, plot & structure, dialogue, emotional stakes- we can look at it all. We can research the right agent for you and your story and your best line of attack when it comes to submissions. We can work out how to make you and your words stand out.
